Our Story

LINKS Community & Family Services was founded in 2009 in Akron’s Middlebury community with just $137 and a vision to create lasting change.

What began with two small programs, Help Me Grow and Community Outreach, has grown into a trusted community hub offering more than 10 free programs that support youth, families, and seniors in Akron each year. What started in one location has expanded to two locations, allowing LINKS to reach more neighbors with consistent care, resources, and connection.

From families seeking early childhood support, to teens building leadership skills, to seniors in need of connection and care, LINKS is here to walk alongside people at every stage of life. We are proud to provide free and accessible programs in Akron that empower individuals, strengthen families, and uplift neighborhoods.

Our Programs

Early Childhood and Family Support

Early Childhood & Family Support

Early Childhood & Family Support programs provide comprehensive, compassionate assistance to families with young children by addressing both developmental and basic needs. Through the Help Me Grow Program, families receive personalized in-home support focused on child development, parenting guidance, and connections to community resources, while the LINKS Emergency Food Pantry and Diaper Bank help ease financial strain by providing nutritious food and diaper supplies to eligible families.

Youth Development

Our Youth Development programs provide safe, supportive, and engaging opportunities that help young people grow into confident, capable leaders Through the LINKS Youth Ambassadors program, Fulton St. Youth Center, and community-based events and camps, participants gain mentorship, life skills, enrichment, and meaningful connections that support their academic, social, and personal development.

Senior Services

Senior Connection

Our Senior Services programs support older adults in aging with dignity, independence, and meaningful connection. Through the Senior Connection Program and Senior Home Visiting Service, seniors receive wellness support, social engagement, educational resources, and in-home assistance that reduce isolation and promote safety and health.

Community Empowerment

Community Empowerment

Our Community Empowerment programs strengthen neighborhoods by meeting immediate needs while building long-term connection, safety, and pride. Through outreach initiatives, neighborhood watch partnerships, beautification projects, and holiday assistance, we bring residents together, reduce barriers to essential resources, and promote safer, more welcoming community spaces.
